“It’s a huge honor for me to receive this award – commented Salvatore Cherchi – and it’s a pleasure to work with the European Boxing Union which I consider as prestigious as the world sanctioning bodies. I split this award with my son Alessandro, whose promotional company (Principe Boxing Events) is bringing new life to boxing in Milan. He co-promoted with me the Di Rocco’s fights.”
This is the sixth time that OPI 2000 gets the award: Cherchi won it in 2002, 2007, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Salvatore Cherchi started working in the boxing business in the 1970s for Hall of Fame promoter Umberto Branchini, then in 1982 he founded OPI 82 with Giovanni Branchini (Umberto’s son). 18 years later, Cherchi created his own company naming it OPI 2000.
