Former IBF cruiser champ Yoan Pablo Hernandez (29-1) have announced his retirement from boxing. Hernandez have for the last few years been sidedlined with illness and injuries and will now have surgery to a knee and that is to be followed by surgery to an elbow.
Hernandez last fight was in August of 2014 and when he was forced to pull out of his defence against Victor Emilio Ramirez that was set for October 3 he was stripped of the title.
According to Bild Hernandez also have financial problems.

Former Italian superlightweight champion Piero Ceru have after a lenghty illness passed away at the age of 73. Ceru turned pro in 1966 and retired in 1978 with a record of 32-27-7 with most of the losses coming from 1974 onwards. He stopped Danish great Borge Krogh in Denmark, drew with Roger Zami and Everaldo Costa Azevedo and took on all comers fighting all over Europe. In 74 he challenged for the EBU title but was stopped against Perico Fernandez.

Bas van Duivenbode passed away Thursday - Sep 24 - at the age of 75 in the Netherlands. van Duivenbode fought professionally from 1961 through 72 compiling a record of 22-16-5. The ledger may look so-so but van Duivenbode fought often on the road fighting at lightheavy and heavyweight taking on the likes of Piero del Papa, Jose Manuel Ibar Urtain, Rudi Lubbers and Pekka Kokkonen.
As an amateur Bas (his full name was Bastian Adrianus) represented the Netherlands in the 1960 Olympics in Rome.
After his career was over van Duivenbode ran a well known pool cafe in Amsterdam and reportedly did very well. In Boxing News classic “Where are they Now” from 1997 it says that Bas “drives a Mercedes 250 and owns a horse which competes in trotting races”.
