HELENIUS RELINQUISHED EBU HEAVY TITLE

20/01/2016 - 22:19:32

Chisora will face available co-challenger

By Per-Ake Persson

Robert Helenius (22-0) have relinquished the EBU heavyweight title to concentrate on a possible world title shot. Mandatory challenger is Dereck Chisora (25-5) and he will now face the highest available challenger for the now vacant title. Purse bids for Helenius vs Chisora II was set for tomorrow (Jan 21) but are now off.

In the EBU ratings Wladimir Klitshko is # 1 and Alexander Povetkin is # 2 but neither is available. However, at # 3 is Anthony Joshua (15-0) and he might be very interested in a showdown vs Chisora. Should that no materialize then Kubrat Pulev is # 4 and he is like Chisora promoted by Team Sauerland.

As for Helenius he will fight in April against a yet to be named "name" opponent.
