July 23, 2018 - Sportenote is sad to report the passing of former lightweight Cuban fighter Jose Chico Veliz.

Veliz died on last Saturday in Miami, Florida. He was 77.

The announcement was made to sportenote by his eldest daughter Maria Carrasco Veliz, to which our deepest condolences go.

Chico Veliz, active from 1959 to 1965, retired from the ring with a professional record of 27-12-3.
