EURO RESULTS

By Per-Ake Persson

Jan 13, Copenhagen, DEN, Royal Arena, Danish Fight Night (Bettina Palle)
12x3: Oliver Mieng, 69,3, Den   D12-S  Felice Moncelli, 69,8, Ita
Meng retained the WBA Continental Europe title after a very tough fight- It was scored 117-112 Meng, 114-114 and 115-113 Moncelli. I had 115-113 Meng. The Dane, a southpaw, started very well but Moncelli was never hurt and got stronger and stronger and by the fifth he took over the fight. The champ was cut over the right eye in the sixth and as the eye swelled it clearly bothered him. Moncelli kept coming and his heavy hooks to the body took their toll on the Dane. After ten it was even on my card but Meng put together a strong finish and seemed to have nicked it - but at least he kept the title.
4x3: Thorbjörn Boudigaard, 90,1, Den  TKO 3 (0.28)  Tamas Kozma, 90,2, Hun
Kozma was floored in the second and again in the third and was not in top shape to put it mildly.
6x2: Mathias Hansen, 113,2, Den  TKO 5 (1.45)   Dzeljan Elezovic, 97,0, B-H
Hansen showed slick moves but was overly patient against a brave but green opponent, who was floored in the fourth and again in the fifth. He survived the count but moments later looked unsteady and it was stopped.
4x2: Snezana Silijkovic, 50,2, Ser  W4-S  Emma Kirstein Jensen, 50,9, Den
Jensen was floored early in the first and did well to make it through the round. She came back in the second but was too inexperienced and stiff in her boxing to turn it around. It was scored 38-37 both ways and 39-36 for the Serbian. I had it 39-36 for the Serbian.
10x2: Elisabeth Oshoba, 56,9, Nig/Uk  TKO 10 (0.40)  Michela Braga, 56,8, Ita
Oshoba, tall and stylish, won the vacant WBC Silver title with an impressive stoppage of the short and stocky Braga. The Nigerian lady  found her range early in the fight but had problems connecting with her right. However, in the 8th she hurt Braga for real who was down but was saved by the bell. In the tenth Oshoba connected again and it was stopped with Braga on the floor again (and the towel came in as well). Oshoba stepped in for Sarah Mahfoud, who wasn't allowed by the WBC to fight so close to purse bid date for the fight against Sky Nicolson.
4x3: Hamza Hussein, 90,7, Den  TKO 2 (1.40)   Goran Sujevic, 89,2, Ser
Sujevic was floored twice in the first and again in the second before it was stopped.
