Feb. 24, Copenhagen, DEN; Royal Arena, Danish Fight Night (Bettina Palle)
10x2: Dina Thorslund, 53,2, Den TKO 8 (1.26) Mary Romero, ?; Spa
Thorslund retained the WBC and WBO titles with another dominating performance. Romero was finally hurt by a right uppercut, bent over and turned her back to the action leaving the referee with no other option but to stop the fight. Thorslund was ahead by 70-63 twice and 69-64. Romero was brave, gave it all she had but tired and it was one-way traffic by the time of the stoppage.
Roimero accepted the fight on two days' notice when it turned out that the WBC mandatory challenger Seren Cetin had arrived in Copenhagen with a fresh cut that had required six stitches to close. The local WBC representative is apparently in a personal relation with Cetin's coach (and was with Team Cetin on the trip) knew about the injury but kept it quiet gambling (?) on the fact that it would be too late to find another opponent and Cetin would thus be allowed to fight and maybe get stopped early in and salvage a technical draw and get a rematch. It didn't work out that way but it was a major scandal and one must ask if the C in WBC stands for Corruption.. It must be added that it was apparently someone with the WBC that said NO to Cetin's plans.
6x3: Hamza Hussein, 90,4, Den W6-U Stefan Mihailov, 91,1, Ser
Mihailov looked soft and inept but was tough and gave Hussein a good learning fight. The Serbian was down in the third and was cut late in the sixth but did well.
8x2: Mikaela Lauren, 65,4, Swe TKO 2 (not out) Mariami Nutsubidze, 67,5, Geo
Nutzubidze was a late sub for Ioana Fecioru, who apparently wound up in a hospital fight week. Lauren, 48, returned after a long layoff and looked rusty if one is nice, shot if one is not. However Nutsubidze hurt or dislocated her right shoulder during the first and it was stopped in the break between rounds.
4x3: Thorbjörn Boudigaard, 90,4, Den KO 1 (2.15) Nikola Mandic, 88,9, Ser
Boudigaard landed a perfect right hand counter just as Mandic was about to punch himself and it was all over.
6x2: Mathias Hansen, 111,3, Den vs Tamaz Zadishvili, 129,2, Geo
Zadishvili was reportedly caught stealing and was picked up by the police. He was released but then reportedly disappeared on the mean streets of Copenhagen and couldn't be found so the fight vs Hansen had to be cancelled.
4x3: Francis Fordjour, 62,5, Den KO 1 (2.53) Ruben Movseiani, 62,8, Geo
Impressive pro debut by Fordjour, who floored Movsesian twice with bodyshots and it was ten and out the second time.
