March 31, Kiel, GER, Sparkassen Arena, est 6000, Sauerland Event, FvA
Arthur Abraham, 76,2, Ger W12-U Piotr Wilczewski, 76,1, Pol
Abraham retained the WBO Euro title on scores of 118-109 twice and 119-108. Wilczewski had a point deducted in the seventh for turning away from the action. Abraham was more active in the beginning than in previous fights and Wilczewski took too long to get untracked - once he did it he showed a fine jab and a stiff right but Abraham was too strong and wore him down despite tiring himself. Wilczewski was in deep trouble in the eleventh but survived and kept trying until the end.
Eduard Gutknecht, 79,0, Ger W12-S Tony Averlant, 78,8, Fra
Gutknecht retained the EBU 175 lb title on scores of 115-113 and 114-113 while the third vote was fr Averlant at 115-113. Gutknecht floored Averlant at the end of the first and the Frenchman was unsteady as he got up but the bell rang. Averlant came back and it became a hardfought, gruelling fight with the Frenchman getting the upper hand and Gutknecht losing his way. For my money Averlant won and most at ringside seemed to agree.
10x3: Mateusz Masternak, 90,0, Pol TKO 10 (2.06) Felipe Romero, 90,3, Mex
Romero was down in the fourth and sixth and punched himself out early in the tenth and was rescued by the referee. Masternak took a long time to get going and was overly careful while Romero, not in top shape, survived and had enough punch to get respect from his opponent.
8x3: Robert Woge, 79,1, Ger KO 3 (2.28) Carl Dilks, 79,4, Uk
Woge, better defenseivly than before but still a straight ahead slugger, hurt Dilks with a left hook and the Brit went down on his back and Woge closed the fight with an impressive combination topped by a left hook. Dilks had his moments in the second but Woge was too much for him
Henry Weber, 76,3, Ger W8-U Lorenzo Di Giacomo, 76,2, Ita
Weber, a soft looking supermiddle, was off to a good start but Di Giacomo came on strong after that and outfought the German - only to lose on scores of 77-75 twice and 78-74,
4x3: Tyron Zeuge, 77,0, Ger, prodebut TKO 1 (1.14) Yauheni Bohdanouski, 77,0, Blr
Bohdanouski, a hopeless beginner, almost began to weep when the first punch landed - it was stopped two knockdowns later. B credited with seven profights (3-4) but was very inept.
