PERSSON'S EURO NEWS AND RESULTS

May 5, Erfurt, GER, Messehalle, Sauerland Event
Marco Huck, 90,0, Ger  D12-M  Ola Afolabi, 90.3. Uk
Huck retained the WBO cruiser title on scores of 115-113 and 114-114 twice after an exciting fight where Afolabi seemed to get the better of it early on as Huck, as he always does, covered up looking to explode in bursts but this time Afolabi, having learnt from Frtiz Sdunek, found holes in Huck´s armor and got through with scoring hurtful punching. Sensing (knowing?) that he was falling behind made Marco up the workrate and it developed into a brawl. Huck´s exellent conditioning saw him through and he hurt Afolabi in the ninth. Still, the challenger appeared to have done enough for a close win but not so according to the judges.

Robert Stieglietz,. 75,6, Ger  W12-U  Nader Hamdan, 75,5, Austr
Stieglitz retained the WBO supermiddle title on scores of 120-108, 117-111 twice.
Kubrat Pulev, 111,4, Bul  KO 11 (2.59)  Alexander Dimitrenko, 116,8, Ger
Pulev won the vacant EBU heavyweight title after a grand performance breaking down the bigger, better (!) Dimitrenko. Dimitrenko was at one time compared with the Klitschkos but again fell apart and was finally knocked out by a jab - and must have been well behind on points after ten.
