MALTA BOXING COMMISSION NOTICE

01/11/2012 - 11.01.21

The Letter of dismissal

Today the board of the MBC takes the rare step of submitting for publication an internal letter issued by the board to one of its former members and officials, this step is being taken so as to ensure and establish without a doubt that the actions of the former VP Mr. Giancluca Di Caro and the several statements he has published in the worlds press are as a result of his dismissal from the Malta Boxing Commission and not the other way around.

We have not taken this action previously because publishing our letter to Mr. Di Caro could inconvenience third parties, the removal of Mr. Di Caro was a simple action taken in one of the smallest boxing federations in the world and yet Mr. Di Caro chose to blow the issue totally out of proportion to go centre stage and fight to stay on a board with members that he has never met, a board on which he never attended a single meeting and in a country in which he has been in once and this not even on MBC business.

Due to the extreme pressure of Mr. Di Caro where he is using his connections as a professional publicist to issue statements which are mis-leading and untrue in his quest to retain a position in a Sports Committee of a country which does not even belong to him we are left with no alternative not only to suspect his motives and enforce our decision to remove him but also to defend the integrity of the MBC and its members with all available means.

And thus while profoundly apologising for any inconvenience to third parties at this stage we feel that we have no alternative but to publish the original letter of dismissal of Mr. Di Caro (which was issued hours before his first statement to the press).

The attention of Mr Gianluca Di Caro

Dear Mr. Di Caro,

The reason for this letter is very specific, you are being removed from the board, committee and any titles you hold with the Malta Boxing Commission.

However you are being given the chance to resign your position before you are actually removed in the following hours.

As is only fair I am also going to communicate to you the reasons and in specific detail why this action is being taken and you should be aware that the situation between you and Messrs Vaughan has very little to do with the decision – rather this is an accumulation of events which have left our members in Malta disillusioned with your performance and a recent solo unauthorised action on your part which has left the MBC exposed to legal liability.

Starting off with your promises which were even presented to the European Boxing Union EBU since the Dublin meeting – Even when one considers the many extraordinary difficulties the MBC has faced in this time – you have not been able to keep even one of those promises and your general performance is lacklustre.

Than - there is the very bad incident with you proposal for the World Boxing Federation convention to be held in Malta – You came to Malta on short notice – and through my personal intervention officials of the Ministry of Tourism and the CEO for the Ministry of Sport rescheduled his appointments to meet you – The fact that the convention did not materialise is not the problem but shamefully as VP of the MBC you did not even communicate your thank you/s and apologies for the cancellation to people who went out of their way to support you.

We now have to examine your stance on certain issues and disagreements with the EBU and the BBBofC – Speaking personally on behalf of the MBC of which I am President - while I certainly agree about the validity of the arguments; however we may not be in agreement about the motivation behind the arguments. It is generally felt that your stance on many issues is being motivated by what is happening in boxing within the United Kingdom and not because of what is happening in Malta. Thus the conclusions and settlements we in Malta expect on such issues as member/s affiliation etc.. might be entirely different from what you would expect.

A prime example of the difference in motivation was the vote in Liege, Belgium at the EBU on the Haye-Chisora issue. Although I found the proposed match distasteful, I on behalf of the MBC voted in favour of Luxembourg based solely on opposition of the legality of the proposal as presented by the Swiss Boxing Federation. On the other hand your motivation was based on what was happening in British Boxing – and this, while not wrong as you are entitled to your opinion, it is also not right because you should be representing Malta Boxing ideals and not the interest of elements within British Boxing. It is very obvious that you are having some difficulty in separating your interest in boxing within the UK and your duties to the MBC in Malta.

Than we come to the application to the MBC by Mr. Stephen Vaughan Snr – of which you have opposed because of his criminal past. And here you have shown a great lack of respect to the MBC as our members are overwhelmingly in favour of approving his application and moreover you have shown a penchant of double standards. If I recall correctly your stance before and after the EBU meeting in Leigh was that the license of a member or potential member should not be blocked based on that persons criminal past and yet you have been putting constant pressure on me to refuse Mr. Vaughan – Since Mr. Vaughan’s mistake did not include crimes against humanity or children or distribution of narcotics than there is no reason based upon your own policy to block or refuse his application. This is not to mention your impossible attitude in trying to enforce impossible financial demands on Mr. Vaughan and his proposed show in November by demanding financial guarantees and fees which are way too high.

Finally we come to the most serious reason of all – Recently you were given a mandate to set up a business company for the MBC – you were specifically asked to do this with an excerpt of minutes of meeting of the MBC giving you the authority to form a company on behalf of the MBC – Instead you formed a company solely in your own name in the UK (Malta Boxing Commission Co) and used a document issued to the MBC by the EBU without authority to do so – thus enabling you to use the word ‘Commission’.

Moreover you than formed ‘TKO international promotions’, in the UK, in the name of your partner, who is also a member and license holder with the MBC and asked me details of a particular Casino in Malta to start negotiations on future boxing events by the TKO and another UK promoter – which you have a right to do and the MBC will give you full support in this but not while you are the Vice President of the MBC and with your partner holding a MBC promoters license - plus the fact that you are the sole owner of a company called Malta Boxing Commission.

This last action/s even if dis-regarding the previous paragraphs without a doubt makes your situation and position within the MBC not tenable.

As distasteful as this is I must ask you to resign with immediate effect or risk being expelled from the MBC. Moreover you are to adjust your situation with the UK registrar of companies and provide us with proof that you have done this.

Also and without fail you will give a hand over of all MBC documentation in your possession and an up to date audit of all license holders with the MBC.

I have also taken the decision to CC this letter to EBU President Mr. Bob Logist as any refusal on your part to cooperate will require your dismissal to be circulated to the members of the EBU and possibly other federations and sanctioning bodies.

The elections and GM of the MBC will be held shortly and we wish to close this chapter as soon as possible and with the least amount of negative publicity as possible.

Personally I would like you to know that never in my life have I experienced a feeling of being let down but most of all you have let down the MBC in Malta which entrusted you to work on its behalf to honour the sport of boxing.

Yours sincerely

Alexander Zammit

President MBC
