Drama for TRAD TKO Gym’s Marianne ‘Golden Girl’ Marston, ahead of her heavily publicized York Hall showdown with Bosnia and Herzegovina #1 ranked Masa Bacanov, following her team receiving news that Masa badly damaged her hand during a sparring session earlier today.
Following a training session earlier, at the famous East London fight factory, Marianne said.
“I can’t believe this, I had only just finished training when I heard the news.
I am so disappointed, not so much for myself, I have faith in my team and promoter Dave Murphy finding me a new opponent for next week, but poor Masa has been ready for our fight for ages.
We were supposed to fight in Malta on August 30th, then it was switched to London on October 4th.
I know Masa was really excited to be fighting in London, so can only send my condolences and hope the injury to her hand is not too serious.
I know how easy injuries can be picked up in sparring, I’ve had the same in the past, luckily I finished my sparring yesterday with no dramas.
The sparring with Ian (former British and European Bantamweight Champion Ian ‘Dappa’ Napa) has been nothing short of phenomenal and I can’t thank him enough for making the time to spar with me.
Thanks to Ian and my coach Brian O’Shaugnessy, I really have had the best preparation I could possibly get for this fight, I am ready to fight whoever they put in front of me next Friday.”
Marianne Marston, against a replacement opponent, will feature on the Dave Murphy Acourtier Events promoted ‘NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS’ event, headlined by Angel McKenzie World title clash, at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London on Friday, 4th October 2013.
