Euro NewsBy Per-Ake Persson Spanish alltime great Antonio Ortiz (pictured) have passed away at the age of 69 after a lengthy illness, reports espabox.com. Ortiz´s record is according to Italian recordbook Pugilato 54-18-7 in a career that lasted from 1965 through 1977.
Ortiz held the national title at jr welter and welter. In 1973 he challenged then EBU jr welter king Cemal Kamaci in Istanbul and came away with the title after a career best performance. In 74 he challenged WBC ruler Bruno Arcari in Italy but lost. Later that year he beat tough Frenchman Roger Zami but then lost the EBU title to Perico Fernandez. Ortiz then moved up to welter and won the Spanish title. Of note is the five fights with the legendary Angel Robinson Garcia and these two went 2-2-1. ********************
WBA I/C lightweight champ Edis Tatli, 21-0, will defend the title against South African former double world champ Mzonke Fana, 32-6, December 7 in Espoo (Finland). Fana replaces Argentinian Matias Ezequiel Gomez, who wasn´t approved by the WBA as he has been fighting exclusively for Comision Mundial de Pugilismo and not for Federacion Argentina de Boxe. Fana, age 40, is probably not as good as he once was but still represents a tough challenge for the undefeated Finn.

French veteran Jimmy Colas travels to Barnaul (Russia) next weekend (November 15) and take on undefeated prospect Fedor Chudinov over ten rounds on a show staged by Vlad Hrunov. Colas has been on a downhill trend of lately being plagued by problems to make jr middle and by injuries.
