Carole Bettini, daughter of the late Fabio Bettini, have written a biography on her father who was French middleweight champion from 1971 through 1974 in a long, hard and glorious career.
Bettini was around in what was a great era for French and European boxing and it was especially tough in the middleweight division. Fabio, who passed away last year, fought the likes of Nino Benvenuti, Jean Claude Bouttier, Willie Monroe, Sandro Mazzinghi, Tom Bogs, Ruben Carter, Sugar Ray Robinson, Max Cohen, Gratien Tonna and a number of other greats.
Bettini fought professionally from 1960 through 1974 compiling a record of 44-30-14.
A number of his former opponents pay homage to their former opponent and friend in the book where also moviestar and fightfan Jean Paul Belmondo participate. Unfortunately for many of us the book is available in French only.
Bulgarian heavy Kubrat Pulev, 19-0, face grizzled old veteran Sherman "Tank" Williams, 36-13-2, December 14 in Neubrandenburg. Pulev is mandatory challenger - for IBF that is - for Wladimir Klitschko and also mandatory challenger for EBU heavyweight champ Dereck Chisora but have to wait for what either of these two are up to next. Also on this Sauerland show is British heavyweight David Price, who is looking to resurrect his career against huge Russian Evgeny Orlov. Lightheavies Juergen Braehmer and Miguel Oliveira headline in a fight for the WBA regular title. Jr middle Jack Culcay is also on the bill and is now trained by Brit Gary Logan.
IBF superbantam champ Kiko Martinez, 29-4-1, defends the title against South African Jeffrey Mathebula, 27-4-2, December 21 in Elche (Spain) on a Maravilla Box / Sampson Boxing / Gary Shaw / Branco Sports co-promotion. Cruiser Ibrahim Lopez, 9-0-1, take on Mustafa Chadlioui, 2-0-1, in a ten rounder in the chief support.
Italian Mario Pisanti and Ivan Ruiz Morote clash for the vacant EU featherweight title December 28 in Latina. This fight was first set for November 29 but was postponed.
German cruiser Serdar "Bomber" Sahin, 22-1, take on undefeated Pole Krysztof Glowacki, 20-0, December 14 in Walcz (Poland). Sahin´s sole loss came when he moved down to lightheavy and was stopped by Robin Krasniqi. Sahin vs Glowacki is for the WBO I/C title.
Aleksander Alekseev, who just fought and lost to IBF cruiser king Yoan Pablo Hernandez, is takes over as promoter for EC Box Promotion, whom Aleksander signed with when he left Universum. Erol Ceylan, who started the company and have been its biggest sponsor through his energy drink enterprise Evil will step back. The big EC show in Hamburg December 20 will be Alekseev´s first as promoter and his days as a fighter appears to be numbered. Headlining the Hamburg show is heavyweight Christian Hammer in a defence of the WBO I/C title against Kevin Johnson. Also set is cruiser Nuri Seferi taking on former WBA interim champ Steve Herelius and the "Diamond Boy", heavyweight Manuel Charr is negotiating with James Toney but it appears not to be a done deal yet. Should Toney come Charr will defend all of his WBC subtitles on the show.

Nov 23, Bamberg, GER, Brose Arena, Sauerland Event
Yoan Pablo Hernandez, 90,1, Ger KO 10 (1.35) Alexander Alekseev, 90,2, Rus/Ger
Hernandez retained the IBF cruiser title ending this all southpaw clash with a short right. Alexeev was also down in the second and fifth but came on strong after that as Hernandez - as he often does - tired. Hernandez was shaken in the seventh but held it together and could end it with a single punch. Alekseev is an exellent fighter - but with questionable chin and stamina.
Alex Leapai, 111,0, Aus W10-U Denis Boytsov, 102,8, Rus/Ger
Leapai retained the WBO Asia-Pacific title on scores of 98-90 and 96-92 twice. Boytsov was down in the seventh and ninth in what on paper looks like a big upset but Boytsov´s record is built on bums and the long layoffs in recent years due to injuries and contractual (Universum) disputes have not helped.
Dmitry Sukhotsky, 78,4, Rus TKO 5 (not out) Eduard Gutknecht, 78,4, Ger
Sukhotsky won this IBF eliminator when Gutknecht was stopped by the doctor (W Wagner) with the left eye completely closed with a bad swelling. Gutknecht won the first two but then the swelling came early in the third and the eye closed. Gutknecht went all out in the fourth but is not a puncher and he couldn´t hurt Sukhotsky.
Noel Gevor, 90,7, Ger W8-U Sandro Siproshvili, 89,1, Geo
6x3: Anthony "Can you dig it" Yigit, 63,5, Swe TKO 6 (0.17) Michal Vosyka, 65,0, Cze
Yigit dominated the action all the way but was too eager and Vosyka, much taller, was able to survive. As Yigit poured it on again referee Norbert Dernberger stopped it with Vosyka and his corner protesting - and they were right. It should have been allowed to continue. Yigit very technical but with no power, kind of a Swedish Meldrick Taylor but tries to fight like a Earnie Shavers and that don´t work.
4x3: Wanik Awidjan, 76,5, Ger TKO 1 (1.00) Janos Olah, 76,5, Hun
The 18-year old Awidjan floored Olah with a straight right and kept the pressure up until it was stopped.
Otto Wallin, 99,3, Swe W4-U Tomas Mrazek, 108,4, Cze
Another all southpaw clash. Mrazek appeared to stun Wallin with a left late in the first but Otto moved more, worked the body and was too sharp for his willing and durable opponent.
