PERSSON'S EURO NEWS AND RESULTS
13/11/2014 - 23:04:35
EURO NEWSBy Per-Ake Persson Boxers from Greece or with Greek roots is nothing new but of lately there’s been professional boxing shows staged in Greece and that is something new.
The man behind most of the promotions is Stefanos Konstantinides and the main fighters are cruiserweight Tasos Berdelis (4-0) and 1-0 middleweight Konstantinos Petropoulus, who turned pro on a show this past weekend in Glyfada, on the outskirts of Athens.
The Greek audience is still more into kickboxing but Konstantinides and his team are slowly building an audience for professional boxing.

Argentinian supermiddle Luciano "La Roca" Cuello (34-3) returns to Spain after being away for five years and take on Romanian Rafael Chiruta (8-34) at the Hotel Asador de Enrique in Madrid on a Maravilla Box Promotion. Cuello is ranked # 11 by the WBC and given the records this may look like a mismatch but the wild punching Chiruta previously upset Ruben Varon - then in line for a shot at the EBU title. Cuello’s losses have been to Canelo Alvarez, Julio Cesar Chaves, Jr, and Willie Nelson.

Bosnian heavyweight Adnan Redzovic didn´t just get knocked out by Arnold Gjergjaj in a fight for the EE-EU title October 4 in Switzerland. He also tested positive for drostanolone and is in accordance with the WADA regulations suspended for two years.

10x2: Mikaela Laurén, 69,4, Stockholm, Swe W10-M Aleksandra M Lopes, 69,0, US
Laurén won the vacant female WBC superwelterweight title on scores of 96-94 twice and 95-95. After four it was scored 38-38 twice and 39-37 for Lopes, after seven 68-65 twice for Laurén and 67-66 for Lopes. Laurén won it on her physcal strength and will to win in a mauling, slowpaced contest. Lopes had the better skillts but wasn´t strong enough to keep it up.
6x3: Benjamin Kalinovic, 69,6, Vasteras, Swe W6-U Frank Harroche Horta, 69,4, Lyon, Fra
Kalinovic won the vacant WPBF European superwelterweight title on scores of 58-56 and out of line numbers of 59-55 and 59-56. I had it 58-56 for Horta, who as always started slowly, lost the first but then got going and put Kalinovic on the backfoot and outworked him until losing the last but still at least fourth could have gone either way in what was an exciting, fastpaced fight. Horta was sure of the win and reacted angrily - with some justice - when the scoring was announced. It was close
4x3: David Loy, 105,4, Kungshamn, Swe W4-U Julien Guibaud Ribaud, 91,1, Montoir de Bretagne, Fra
40-36 on all cards but Loy had a tough time with the short and overweight Frenchman, who knew what to do but didn´t have the power or conditioning to do it.
4x3: Hassan Saku, 76,7, Swe W4-U Bartlomiej Grafka, 76,1, Pol
Grafka came in on very late notice for Damien Retif and was floored twice in the first by the wildswinging southpaw from Uganda but based in Stockholm. The second knockdown came at the bell and as Grafka fell referee Ake Johansson fell with him and while Grafka got up and walked to his corner Johanssen injured his knee and had to to replaced by Mikael Hook. Grafka made good recovery while Saku, a bit softlooking, tired. After four it was scored 38-37 for Saku.
4x3: Gunnar Kolbein Kristinsson, 104,4, Gardabaer, Iceland/Swe W4-U Janis Ginters, 113,2, Riga, Lat
born 880428, 38 fights as amateur, 198 cm, fought in the 2011 World Cup, Silver Nordic. Kolbein made his prodebut and got an awkward opponent in Ginters. It was scored 40-36 twice and 40-37.
4x3: Viktor Fabretto, 80,1, Västerås, Swe W4-U Przemyslaw Pikulik, 80,9, Pol, debut
born 920513, 60+ amateur fights, participated in Swedish championships, no titles. Pikulik came in on very late notice and had Fabretto down in the third but lost on scores of 38-37 twice and 39-37.
4x3: Mohammed Saleh, 67,2, Västerås, Swe TKO 3 (0.56) Alexandre Giordano, 66,6, Fra, debut
born 900220, 30+ fights as amateur, lost to A Yigit in the 09 Swedish championships, then injured and long layoff followed. Saleh floored Giordano in the first and went all out but tired and was under pressure in the second. In third both started fast and then Saleh put Giordano down with a big right and the towel came in during the count.
